B&O-Bang & Olufsen Beosound A5
The Beosound A5 condenses Bang & Olufsen's high‑end DNA into a portable, 280‑watt speaker that delivers surprisingly room‑filling performance. Its four‑way array (5.25" woofer, dual 2" full‑range drivers and a 0.8" tweeter) and DSP tools such as Active Room Compensation and Adaptive Bass Linearization yield authoritative bass, present, natural mids and refined highs with a wide, stable image—especially when two units are stereo‑paired. As Robert Silva and Brian Mitchell observe, B&O brings beamforming and software innovations from its Beolab range to a portable format, producing immersive 360° dispersion uncommon at this scale.
Design is as much a selling point as sound: the GamFratesi collaboration, modular front covers for repair and customization, and a solid oak handle position the A5 as a lasting lifestyle object. Practicality isn't ignored—an IP65‑rated exterior, up to 12 hours of battery life and integrated wireless Qi charging make it genuinely portable. The trade‑off is clear: this is a premium product aimed at buyers who prize aesthetics, integration and sonic refinement over bargain value. For those priorities the Beosound A5 is a rare blend of form, function and powerful sound.

Pros
Room‑filling, punchy sound driven by a 280 W, four‑way active design—strong low end with controlled DSP tuning.
Precise imaging and immersive 360° dispersion thanks to beamforming, stereo pairing and Fluid Sweet Spot functionality.
Premium, repairable build and timeless aesthetics—modular front covers and GamFratesi‑led design support longevity and style.
True portability with IP65 surfaces, up to 12 hours battery life and integrated wireless Qi charging for everyday use.
Cons
Premium pricing places it in high‑end territory, which reduces value for buyers focused solely on cost.
IP65 rating has caveats—wood and paper‑weave finishes may be vulnerable to water despite overall weatherproofing.

SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 90/100
Bass
89/100
5.25" woofer plus dedicated 70 W class-D amplification and Adaptive Bass Linearization give strong low-frequency extension and control for a compact, active speaker. The spec'd 101 dB SPL and room recommendation to 50 m² indicate authoritative bass for its driver size, with DSP smoothing to limit boom in-room.
Mid
92/100
Dual 2" full-range drivers with individual amplification and Active Room Compensation suggest very clean, present mids and natural vocal timbre. The active crossover and room-correction features should preserve body and clarity across levels.
Treble
90/100
0.8" tweeter driven by its own 70 W amp plus DSP tuning yields extended, refined highs with low likelihood of harshness. Built-in EQ presets and user customisation via the app allow tuning for preferred air and detail.
Soundstage Imaging
90/100
Multiple driven radiators and stereo-pairing capability (pair two A5 for stereo) combined with room compensation enable a wide, well-focused image and convincing depth for a compact speaker. Designed for 10–50 m² rooms, it aims to deliver stable imaging across listening positions.
Dynamics
88/100
Individual 70 W class-D amps per driver and a high maximum SPL support strong macro dynamics and punch. As a powered, DSP-managed design it offers good transient control, though ultimate headroom is limited by the compact enclosure and battery/portable design.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
92/100
Premium materials and design collaboration (Bang & Olufsen x GamFratesi Studio) point to excellent fit, finish and mechanical design. IP65-rated surfaces (with caveats for wood/paper weave) and solid construction align with B&O’s high-end craftsmanship.
Features Connectivity
80/100
Passive-baseline scoring applied: set to the fixed passive baseline of 80 per the scoring rules. The product itself is feature-rich (Wi‑Fi, AirPlay, Chromecast, Bluetooth 5.3, app EQ, multiroom), but connectivity adjustments are not applied for passive-speaker scoring.
Value for Money
70/100
At a listed price around €2,050 / high-end territory, the A5 offers excellent design, build and convenience, but the premium cost limits pure value compared with lower-cost alternatives. Recommended mainly for buyers valuing aesthetics, integration and convenience along with performance.
