What's inside

Technology

From day one, AVID has made energy management a foundational part of its engineering philosophy. Every hi-fi component generates vibration, some essential for sound reproduction, others that will degrade performance. The secret to exceptional clarity lies in eliminating these vibrations a close to the source as possible.

After extensive research and real-world testing, we developed our Tuned Mass Technology (TMT)™, a breakthrough damping system that neutralizes harmful vibrations before they affect the cabinet or the loudspeaker drivers performance. Attaching a specifically weighted mass to the driver, mechanically decoupled yet loosely coupled, creates the most efficient outlet for unwanted energy.

The result? A dramatically cleaner, more focused sound with improved resolution and lifelike vocal detail, delivered from a cabinet that stays remarkably silent. The soundstage opens up, revealing greater transparency and depth that makes the music truly come alive.

Cabinet

At the heart of the EVO TWO is a front baffle crafted from a solid 20mm-thick aluminium plate, precision-machined for maximum rigidity. Our exclusive metal compression plate secures the drive units evenly across their entire circumference, delivering far greater stability than conventional screw fixings. This ensures optimal energy transfer and eliminates uneven stresses that can colour the sound.

Unwanted vibrations from the drivers are absorbed close to their source using our advanced Tuned Mass Technology (TMT)™. By removing this energy before it reaches the cabinet, distortion is significantly reduced, revealing a cleaner, more transparent sound with greater detail and clarity.

The rear baffle, which supports the crossover network, is also constructed from aluminium. This contributes to the overall structural stiffness of the cabinet, further enhancing acoustic integrity.

The main enclosure is meticulously hand-built from 18mm moisture-resistant MDF. Each component is individually precision-cut using advanced 5-axis CNC machining and then hand-assembled to ensure perfect alignment and consistency. Internally, extensive bracing controls air pressure and cabinet resonance, allowing the speaker to maintain its dynamic character and musicality at any volume level.

A vertically oriented, downward-firing reflex port is integrated beneath the cabinet, supporting extended low-frequency performance. This design not only enhances bass depth but also makes the speaker exceptionally room-friendly, delivering consistent performance in spaces of varying size and layout.

Drivers

EVO TWO's 4-inch tweeter is engineered for extraordinary detail and natural tonality. Featuring Acuflex™ Technology, a specially formulated damping compound is applied to the soft silk dome to precisely control diaphragm flexing. This results in a unique self-cancelling motion, where each potential breakup mode is counteracted by an opposing one and effectively eliminating distortion and delivering a pure, lifelike high-frequency response.

The tweeter also incorporates a powerful vented Ferrite magnet and a 1⅛-inch Hexatech™ aluminium voice coil, ensuring fast transient response and high power handling. It is rigidly mounted to the front baffle, which is precision-machined with an Improved Dispersion Recess (IDR). This is a contoured inset that enhances off-axis high-frequency performance, resulting in a more spacious and accurate soundstage.

Complementing the tweeter is a pair of 6-inch Mid drivers, housed within a low-resonance Uniflow™ aerodynamic chassis for optimal airflow and reduced turbulence. The Damped Polymer Composite Cone, combined with AVID’s proprietary Tuned Mass Technology (TMT)™ damper, eliminates unwanted vibrational energy close to the source, remarkable clarity, free from the distortion that often plagues traditional speaker designs. Where other manufacturers rely on exotic cone materials to mask problems, AVID addresses the issue through intelligent vibration control.

Supporting the system is a dedicated low-frequency driver specifically designed for high-resolution and musical accuracy. This unit features a massive symmetrical magnet system, an extended pole piece, and an exceptionally long voice coil to ensure linearity and control at all listening levels.

The result is a loudspeaker system that offers a stunning combination of control, resolution, and musicality, delivering every musical recording with astonishing realism.

Crossover

Often overlooked because they’re hidden from view, crossovers are the critical control centre of any loudspeaker. Their role is to divide the full-range signal from your amplifier and deliver only the appropriate frequency range to each driver, ensuring each one performs optimally. In many ways, the crossover functions as the intelligence behind the speaker’s performance.

To achieve the highest possible sound quality, AVID focuses on simplicity, precision, and premium componentry. Reducing the number of components in the signal path minimises distortion, but this minimalism demands absolute accuracy in design and component selection. The crossover circuit is made up of three primary types of components: capacitors, inductors, and resistors. Selecting the correct value and specification for each is essential, as they work together as a finely tuned system to ensure smooth and accurate frequency integration.

The design process begins with advanced computer simulations to establish the theoretical component values. These are then refined through extensive critical listening tests, ensuring that final choices deliver exceptional sonic performance in real-world conditions.

All EVO loudspeakers exclusively use ClarityCap™ capacitors, known for their CopperConnect™ technology, which reduces signal path resistance and grain boundary interruptions—two factors that can compromise sound purity. AVID further enhances performance by using higher voltage-rated versions, which significantly lower Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) for cleaner, more dynamic sound reproduction.

For inductors, air-core designs are preferred for their superior sonic transparency compared to ferrite-based alternatives. AVID’s custom inductors are hand-wound using 1.25mm self-bonding enamelled wire on plastic rectangular air-core bobbins. This heavy-gauge wire offers lower DC Resistance (DCR), providing tighter bass control and improved overall clarity. These choices are made purely on the basis of sound quality, not cost.

The result is a crossover network that not only meets theoretical performance benchmarks but elevates real-world musical delivery—providing seamless integration between drivers and preserving the integrity of the original recording.

Sound Quality

92/100

Bass

95/100

Manufacturer specs show a dedicated 250mm LLF plus two 160mm drivers and a claimed response to 28 Hz ±3 dB. Cabinet mass (42 kg) and aluminium front/rear plates imply strong low-frequency control and extension. No independent reviews were provided to confirm in-room output, so score is generous but capped within the reference-class 'typical' ceiling.

Mid

92/100

3.5-way topology with two 160mm MF/LF drivers and a 28mm hand-coated soft dome HF suggests coherent, detailed midrange and accurate vocal timbre. Rigid aluminium baffle and handcrafted MRMDF cabinet support low coloration. Absence of listening reports keeps the rating cautiously high but not maximal.
