Audio Physic Codex RQ
A loudspeaker for a truly live experience
Experiencing music with impressive dynamics and precision should not be compromised by the spatial constraints of your home. The new CODEX RQ therefore combines uncompromising sonic performance with exceptional placement flexibility, while blending seamlessly into sophisticated living spaces.
Excellence in Music Reproduction and Sophisticated Living Spaces
Excellent music reproduction and sophisticated living spaces can present a certain challenge. To deliver deep-reaching bass and a powerful, authoritative foundation, loudspeakers require a certain amount of cabinet volume. The CODEX RQ successfully bridges this gap thanks to its intelligent cabinet architecture. With its new technological highlights – the RECOTec drivers and Q-SET technology – it takes sonic performance to an even higher level.
RECOTec and Q-SET: New Technology for Even Greater Precision and Control
The CODEX RQ is now equipped with state-of-the-art RECOTec drivers. The tweeter, midrange and mid/bass drivers all feature diaphragms made from innovative RECOTec material. The special carbon-fiber structure combines high rigidity with excellent internal damping. This allows the drivers to respond to musical signals with exceptional speed and precision while effectively reducing unwanted resonances. The result is an exceptionally clear, detailed and natural reproduction with outstanding resolution.
The high- and mid-frequency ranges are handled by the pioneering fifth-generation Hyper Holographic Cone Tweeter HHCT V and the HHCM V SL midrange driver. Both benefit directly from the new RECOTec technology. The HHCM V SL, in particular, makes full use of the possibilities offered by the new material: thanks to its special surround design, it operates completely without a conventional spider. This creates an especially unobstructed airflow behind the RECOTec diaphragm and effectively reduces compression effects.
But it is not only the midrange and treble that benefit from the new technology. The mid/bass driver also features a RECOTec diaphragm. This gives the CODEX RQ a consistent technological foundation across an exceptionally wide frequency range, enabling precise, fast and low-coloration reproduction.
Q-SET: Tailoring the Bass to Your Room
Another highlight of the new CODEX RQ is Q-SET technology. Both the mid/bass driver and the 27-centimeter woofer, which operates inside the loudspeaker, feature dual voice coils and are therefore designed for Q-SET.
The rear-mounted Q-SET adjustment allows the bass response to be precisely tailored to the speaker’s positioning and the acoustic characteristics of the room. This enables the CODEX RQ to deliver precise, controlled and powerful performance even when positioned close to a wall or in a corner. The adjustment is designed without significantly altering the loudspeaker’s impedance.
This is a major advantage, particularly in real-world living spaces: the CODEX RQ offers significantly greater flexibility not only in terms of sound, but also in terms of placement. Q-SET ensures that the CODEX RQ’s enormous low-frequency potential remains controlled and musically precise under a wide range of room conditions.
Authoritative Bass Meets State-of-the-Art Driver Technology
The 27-centimeter long-throw woofer is located inside the CODEX RQ and operates in its own optimally tuned enclosure. At 100 Hz, it hands over reproduction to the 18-centimeter mid/bass driver mounted on the front of the cabinet. This intelligent division of labor creates a powerful and controlled bass foundation.
The combination of the two Q-SET-enabled drivers and the precise RECOTec technology of the mid/bass driver enables exceptionally dynamic and controlled reproduction. Even the deepest frequencies are reproduced with authority and effortless ease, while the transition into the midrange remains precise and seamless.
Technology Carried Through to Every Detail
The new RECOTec drivers and Q-SET form the technological core of the current CODEX RQ. They are complemented by its extensively optimized cabinet construction. Numerous internal braces and particularly rigid elements made from open-cell ceramic foam provide exceptional cabinet stability without noticeably reducing the internal volume. The sandwich construction, with its permanently elastic intermediate layer, effectively calms the cabinet and prevents individual cabinet elements from developing an acoustic life of their own.
The drivers themselves are also mechanically decoupled from the cabinet and each have their own chambers. This effectively minimizes unwanted micro-vibrations and interactions through the internal air volume. The crossover networks are distributed across several chambers, equipped with high-quality components and positioned directly behind their respective drivers – ensuring short signal paths and maximum signal integrity.
Despite its sophisticated technology, the CODEX RQ remains an elegant presence. Its clean lines and slim baffle give this four-way loudspeaker a timeless and sophisticated appearance. Particularly in the high-gloss glass finish, the CODEX RQ appears almost weightless despite its substantial volume.
The current CODEX RQ thus combines two key technological advances: RECOTec for outstanding precision and resolution, and Q-SET for controlled, room-adaptable bass reproduction. Together with its uncompromising cabinet construction, they create a loudspeaker that combines technological innovation and musical naturalness in a truly unique way.
True to the Audio Physic philosophy:
Nothing but Music
4-Way Design
The 4-way speaker features four different drivers that share reproduction of the entire frequency range. One or more subwoofers, one or more woofers, a midrange and a tweeter. Usually the crossover frequency between subwoofer and woofer is set at around 100Hz, while low and mid frequencies are separated between 250Hz and 400Hz, and the crossover frequency between midrange and tweeter is normally set at 2,000Hz to 3,000Hz.
HHCM V SL
HHCM V SL – The Fifth Generation. A New Reference in Midrange Performance.
For many years, the spiderless HHCM SL has stood for absolute precision and naturalness in music reproduction. With the fifth generation – the HHCM V SL+ – we have consistently advanced this philosophy, elevating sonic performance to an entirely new level. The result is a listening experience that is more engaging and closer to reality than ever before.
At the heart of this development is the innovative RECOTec diaphragm material: a carbon fiber mesh embedded in a polypropylene matrix. This unique material combination unites maximum stiffness with perfect internal damping, enabling a midrange that sounds more open, dynamic, and authentic than ever. Voices, instruments, and the finest nuances unfold with breathtaking naturalness.
Experience music in a new dimension – precise, transparent, and full of emotion.
HHCT V
HHCT V – The Fifth Generation. A New Reference in High-Frequency Performance.
For many years, Audio Physic’s cone tweeters have stood for exceptional precision and naturalness in high-frequency reproduction. With the fifth generation – the HHCT V – we have consistently advanced this philosophy, elevating treble performance to an entirely new level. The result is a listening experience that reveals more detail and realism than ever before.
At the heart of this development is, once again, the innovative RECOTec cone material: a carbon fiber mesh embedded in a polypropylene matrix. This unique material combination unites maximum stiffness with optimal internal damping, enabling treble reproduction that is more open, refined, and authentic than ever. The finest nuances, delicate overtones, and the airiness of a recording unfold with breathtaking naturalness.
RECOTec Membrane
RECOTec – The membrane material of the future
With RECOTec , a completely new type of membrane material has been developed: a chaotically arranged carbon fiber scrim, embedded in a high-purity polypropylene matrix. Adhesives or synthetic resins are completely dispensed with – disturbing resonances cannot occur in the first place.
The result is a sonic symbiosis: the naturalness of classic paper cones combined with the precision and resolution of modern aluminium cones. RECOTec thus stands for a new generation of loudspeaker diaphragms – low-resonance, high-resolution and absolutely authentic.
Q-SET (Bass-Adjustment)
The Q-Set allows the woofer reproduction of loudspeakers to be flexibly adapted to the respective room positioning. Especially when positioned close to the wall or corner, excessive bass enhancement can occur due to room influences. With Q-Set, this effect can be compensated for in 3 stages.
Q-Set does not have a negative impact on the impedance curve – the working conditions for the connected amplifier do not change. The switches can be operated during normal music operation.

Dual Basket Design
AUDIO PHYSIC’S unique DUAL BASKET DESIGN is a true break-through innovation and the most important part of the HHCM-III technology. Instead of the tradition single basket, our HHCM-III features two separate baskets to prevent and subdue unwanted vibrations already at the source.
Invisible Subwoofer
Some of our speakers feature an internal woofer inside the cabinet provides the same deep bass and punch as an additional subwoofer without anyone ever having to see it.
Honeycomb Sandwich Board
Very rigid material with an internal honeycomb structure, first used in our state-of-the-art STRUCTURE. It is very light and a lot better in avoiding unwanted vibrations and resonances than the commonly used MDF.
Ceramic Foam Bracing
Ceramic Foam is a high-tech material used for internal bracing in many of our speakers. It is much stiffer than MDF although it consists of 85% air. This means, the room taken up by the internal bracing is also part of the effective volume of air the drivers need to work. By using Ceramic Foam, we can build loudspeakers that match and out-perform much bulkier speakers.
Sandwich Cabinet Construction
Our unique Sandwich Cabinets are an innovative way to stop the speaker cabinet from developing an acoustical life of its own. It is especially effective with our stylish glass-finished speakers as the relatively high weight of the glass panels helps dampening the cabinet even better.
VCT – Vibration Control Terminal
Unwanted vibrations have negative effects on sound quality wherever they occur in the signal path. Because AUDIO PHYSIC has made it their mission to fight unwanted vibration and resonance whenever and wherever they occur, the fully decoupled VIBRATION CONTROL TERMINAL (VCT) has been devised.
VCF – Vibration Control Feet optional
The best feet for our – and other – speakers. VCF provide a substantial improvement of sound performance by reducing transfer of unwanted vibrations while at the same time protecting delicate surfaces. Also available as VCF Component for Hi-Fi separates and as VCF Cable Supports.
Bi-Wiring/Bi-Amping optional
Most our speakers have a regular single-wiring terminal to avoid unnecessary metal or wire bridges that would harm sound quality when used in single-wiring configuration (Which is what most Hi-Fi fans actually use). However, an optional Bi-Wiring/Bi-Amping Terminal can usually be ordered with any new speaker. Retrofitting only on special request.
