Audia Flight Strumento N°8 Mono Power Amplifier
MONOBLOCK POWER AMPLIFIER
After the long and meticulous development of our original Strumento N°4 Stereo Power Amplifier, we set out to redefine the mono-block power amplifier at the highest level. The result is the Strumento N°8—a benchmark of design, craftsmanship, and performance. Like its stereo sibling, the Strumento N°8 delivers exceptional response speed with a bandwidth greater than 1MHz, and massive output power of up to 2,000 Watts. As a mono-block amplifier, however, it offers even greater control and authority, with unlimited driving capability for any loudspeaker. Used in pairs, the Strumento N°8 easily exceeds the already outstanding performance of the Strumento N°4 mk2. To achieve this, we drew on our experience with the Strumento N°4 mk2 and applied further refinements to the circuit—adjustments as small as changes to resistor or capacitor values—guided not just by engineering but by trained ears and countless hours of listening. These subtle but critical choices help bring us ever closer to sonic perfection, much like a luthier refines an instrument’s voice through craftsmanship and instinct. At the heart of the amplifier lies our exclusive Audia Flight Class A current-feedback gain stage. To isolate this critical section from vibration and interference, it is enclosed within an aluminum case and encapsulated in epoxy resin, ensuring perfect thermal stability and shielding. The output stage is powered by a massive 3,000VA custom audio transformer, also epoxy-sealed and protected by dual ferromagnetic shields. The power supply design is sophisticated, with two high-current power sections serving the single audio channel, supported by four independent regulated stages: two for the input stage and two for the current-feedback stage. The gain stage power supply is designed for extremely low noise, utilizing ultra-fast rectifiers and ultra-low impedance capacitors to maintain total signal purity. Two 150VA toroidal transformers are dedicated to the main amplification stages, and a separate 15VA toroidal transformer powers the logic and protection systems. The main power supply includes twenty-eight 6,800μF, 63V ultra-low impedance capacitors. Fuses, which can restrict signal flow like resistors, are deliberately avoided in the output stage. Instead, a microprocessor-controlled current sensor provides reliable protection without compromising the sound. The mechanical design of the Strumento N°8 is equally thoughtful. Its power transformers are mounted on an independent chassis, physically decoupled from the main audio circuit. This structure ensures that any vibration originating from the transformers is harmlessly discharged to ground, protecting the integrity of the audio signal. Inside and out, every detail of the Strumento N°8 reflects extraordinary Italian craftsmanship and uncompromising dedication to sound. It is a power amplifier built to bring music to life with unmatched precision, effortless dynamics, and a deep emotional connection.
