Amphion One18X
The One18X pairs immense midrange detail with a low-distortion treble that exposes edits, reverb tails and sibilance without turning harsh. Its controlled dispersion and passive-radiator loading deliver pin-sharp imaging plus extended, pitch-accurate bass, making this a deeply revealing nearfield tool. Sound on Sound found the revised design a major step forward.

Pros
Exceptional midrange and lower-treble resolution reveals fine mix details, including edits, reverb tails and unintended noises.
Low-distortion, detailed treble handles sibilance cleanly without harshness or an overly pushy character.
Stereo presentation offers pin-sharp focus and convincing depth beyond the centre image.
Extended bass remains temporally and pitch accurate, clarifying kick-drum and bass-guitar relationships.
Cons
Its tonal balance may sound slightly bright; the reviewer preferred a 1dB shelving cut above 4kHz.

What Reviewers Are Saying
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 93/100
The One18X is described as an exceptionally revealing, low-distortion monitor with notably accurate bass, immense midband detail and a highly refined top end. Sound On Sound also found its stereo presentation unusually precise and deep, though the review offers little direct comment on large-scale dynamic headroom.
Bass
92/100
Despite its compact stand-mount format, the passive-radiator design is said to reach convincingly low. Crucially, Sound On Sound found that extension did not compromise timing or pitch definition, making kick drum and bass-guitar relationships especially easy to follow.
Mid
95/100
Sound On Sound reports immense midrange and lower-treble detail, exposing edits, reverb tails and small unintended noises in familiar recordings. This points to a highly transparent, analytical midband suited to critical monitoring.
Treble
96/100
The revised tweeter earns especially strong praise for its immense detail, low distortion and extended response. Sibilance is handled cleanly without harshness or forwardness, while the controlled dispersion helps preserve a consistent tonal balance in-room.
Soundstage Imaging
95/100
Stereo imaging is described as pin-sharp, with impressive focus and depth beyond the central phantom image. The review suggests a presentation that makes individual elements easy to locate and assess in a mix.
Dynamics
80/100
The review strongly supports the speaker's clarity and ability to separate low-frequency musical lines, but says little directly about macro-dynamic impact or high-volume headroom. Its 85dB sensitivity and substantial recommended amplification suggest that suitable partnering amplification will matter.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
91/100
Sound On Sound found the internally braced MDF cabinet extremely rigid and non-resonant. The textured dark-grey finish is described plainly, while the cabinet's solidity appears to be the more significant engineering benefit.
Value for Money
85/100
At £3,300 / €3,750 per pair including VAT, the One18X sits in a premium active-monitor and high-end stand-mount price bracket. Sound On Sound does not directly compare its value with competing models or offer a firm verdict on whether the asking price is especially compelling.
