AGD Production Gran Vivace
Design Philosophy
The AGD Gran Vivace Monoblock is the new addition to the AGD GanTubeTM Hi-End Power Amplifiers family. First to use the unique GaNTube™ technology with Gallium Nitride Power-Stage integrated into a Vacuum Tube, the AGD amplifiers are the most technologically advanced design available in the market today. The AGD “Gran Vivace” is rated 400W on 4ohm and it is characterized by an outstanding 50A peak output driving capability that will satisfy the most demanding loudspeakers and fill with musical sound pressure also the largest audio rooms. To achieve these performances, we have designed a new GaNTubeTM component, the AGD GaNTube KT120, larger and more powerful than its sibling AGD GaNTube KT88 MKii.
To achieve the highest-performance in audio reproduction, switching topologies must achieve nearly ideal switching waveforms, completely oscillation-free, to minimize distortion but most importantly, to preserve the harmonic content present in the original input signal and avoid the superimposition of any additional artifacts that alter the overall spectrum and the spatiality of the music reproduction. The Gallium Nitride power MOSFETS used in the GaNTubeTM power-stage simplifies this challenge through its ability to efficiently switch at much higher slew rates than any silicon-based power MOSFET, with almost perfect (book-like) behavior and oscillation free switching.
In this new AGD GaNTubeTM 120KT, a pair of powerful 600V rated Gallium-nitride power MOSFETs are at the core of the design. These new advanced components are the key to the reference level performance of the AGD “Gran Vivace” Monoblocks. Thanks to the improvement in components, and PCB layout (tested and introduced recently with the AGD GaNTubeTM KT88 MKii), we achieved the goal to operate also this much larger power-stage at 800kHz, with a direct and positive impact on the overall already outstanding sonic and musical performances.
With the seamless ability to drive any loudspeakers, 400W of power, 50A of peak current, 70,000µF of super audio grade capacitor reservoir, and the fastest slew-rate, the AGDKT120GaNTube standard with the Gran Vivace, can deliver an incredible immersive holographic powerful and pure musical experience.
Thanks to the new 600V high-current Gallium-Nitride power MOSFETs stage, the improved layout with enhanced thermal characteristics and the virtually stray-inductance free package, the rise time and fall time of the Gran Vivace’s KT120GaNTube power stage are fully symmetrical and oscillation-free, with dv/dt similar to the one offered by the smaller sibling AGDKT88 Mkii used in the AGD “The Audion” and AGD “Vivace” amplifiers.
The AGD “Gran Vivace” is designed with the specific goal to satisfy the most demanding Audiophiles with the most critical efficient loudspeakers and the larger audio rooms.
This oscilloscope snap-shot of the output power stage half-bridge switching node, is a dramatic evidence of the tremendous difference in switching speed between the Gallium Nitride Power MOSFET and the state of the art Silicon Power MOSFET equivalent.
The combination of low noise design technique implemented and the best practice for the internal board layout, the RF quality BNC connectors for the analog signals, are the key contributors of the excellent noise floor of the Vivace Monoblocks and extremely low distortion.

AGD Production Gran Vivace — GaN-powered monoblock amplifier
AGD Production's Gran Vivace pairs cutting-edge GaN switching with a removable 'GaNTube' output module to deliver muscular, modern monoblock performance. With a rated 400W/4Ω, up to 50A peak current and >94% efficiency, it serves low-efficiency speakers and large rooms with authoritative bass and a transparent, airy midrange. Reviewers from Greg Weaver/Positive Feedback and Srajan Ebaen/6 Moons praised its dynamics, imaging and extension, while Ken Kessler/HiFi News highlighted its musical transparency and appealing warmth without grain. The milled-alloy chassis, quick thermal stability and user-swappable bottle create a practical upgrade path and excellent build quality. Ideal for audiophiles who want the speed and current delivery of GaN Class-D with tube-like aesthetics, the Gran Vivace delivers reference-level control and musicality for its price.
Pros
- Authoritative low-frequency control and macrodynamics that drive low-efficiency speakers and large rooms with tight, deep bass and slam.
- Transparent, natural midrange and clean, extended treble—air and detail without grain or sibilance.
- Innovative, serviceable GaNTube modular design and rock-solid build quality (milled chassis, large reservoir capacitance) that enable an upgrade path.
&
Cons
- Exposed glass GaNTube module is vulnerable to accidental damage and may require care or a protective cage.

Dynamics
94/100
Multiple reviewers praised the amp's authoritative power delivery and headroom: Positive Feedback described 'ironclad' bass and 'unflappable' macrodynamics, while 6 Moons highlighted 50A peak current and suitability for low-efficiency speakers/large rooms. Specs back this up (400W into 4Ω CEA rating, ~768–800kHz GaN switching, very high efficiency), and the monoblock topology/robust supply meaningfully contributes to grip and transient authority. A minor caveat: Positive Feedback noted slightly reticent microdynamic nuance versus the very top performers, which keeps the score just below absolute reference.
Soundstage Imaging
93/100
All reviewers highlighted outstanding imaging and spaciousness: Positive Feedback gave detailed placement examples (Sting and Madonna vocals, convincingly 'spooky real' corporality), 6 Moons cited improved holographic ambiance, and HiFi News noted a genuine sense of place and atmosphere. The Gran Vivace preserves channel separation and scale even under large dynamic demands, supporting consistently stable, deep soundstages.

Build Quality
95/100
Build quality is repeatedly praised (HiFi News calls it 'superlative'), and internal design supports performance: monoblock construction, large power supply (reviewers cite doubled reservoir capacitance vs smaller sibling, ~70,000µF in related notes), robust GaN devices, removable/upgradeable 'bottle' modules, and quick thermal stability. The physical execution and serviceable modularity, plus the amp's documented electrical headroom, justify a top-tier build score.
Value for Money
95/100
Reviewers explicitly positioned performance vs price as exceptional: Positive Feedback called the performance 'an exceptional level of accomplishment for both their operational class and price' and noted you must 'ante up considerably more coin to do much better.' At the listed price (~$18,999) the Gran Vivace delivers measured and reviewed performance of ~400W into 4Ω with up to 50A peak current, GaN switching efficiency and a large power supply — a package reviewers judged to undercut much costlier monoblocks while delivering comparable authority, hence a strong value rating.
