Audiophiliac describes a sophisticated, sweet and warm sound that kept drawing them into another CD, with clean, clear bass and convincing low-end weight. Old Guy Hifi likewise hears a lush but detailed balance, with smoothness that does not blur transients or soften musical edges.

Detail retrieval receives particularly strong praise: Audiophiliac says the player delivered the sought-after "uber detail," while Old Guy Hifi calls its retrieval stellar. The latter also highlights textured bass, graceful note decays and a large, focused soundstage.

Old Guy Hifi finds the built-in filtering clean, smooth and non-fatiguing, and Audiophiliac reports only small differences when using the player as a transport into a far more ambitious external DAC system. That comparison did give the external DAC a modest edge in bass speed, tightness and nimbleness.
